NCAA Central Regional: Illinois storms back for win
Ben Campbell
SUGAR GROVE, Ill. (May 17, 2014) -- Behind the dominant play of individual medalist Brian Campbell, Illinois stormed back to win the NCAA Men's Golf Central Regional at Rich Harvest Farms Golf Club Saturday.
Campbell led the individual race from the start, opening with rounds of 69-70. His final-round 72 paired nicely with the same card from teammate Charlie Danielson as the two paced the Illini on their comeback.
When it was all said and done, Illinois rallied to win by two shots over UAB, which had held the lead since Round 1.
Campbell held on for the individual title by four shots. USC's Anthony Paolucci surged with a final-round 69 to take solo second place.
UAB was led by Paul Dunne (73-73-72) and Martin Rohwer (74-74-72). Sam Love had played well in the first two days before shooting a final-round 77.
Purdue took third place behind Adam Schenk's 10th-place effort. He shot 75-70-76.
Tied for fourth place were USC and Cal.
