Rodgers named SGA Am of the Month
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (April 2, 2014) – Stanford
junior Patrick Rodgers has been named the
Southern Golf Association’s National
Amateur of the Month for March for the
second time in his impressive collegiate
career.
Rogers has won three tournaments in a row, including two in the month of March. He opened the month by successfully defending his title at the Southern Highlands Collegiate by two strokes in Las Vegas. Then he solidified his nomination for the award by leading Stanford to a runaway 20-stroke team victory in The Goodwin over USC and a strong field of West Coast powers. Rodgers won the individual title by 6 strokes with his 14-under 196 total at the Stanford G.C.
Rodgers won the award a year ago
primarily on the strength of winning the 2013
Southern Highlands. This time, he
dominated voting by the blue-ribbon national
panel of golf journalists, officials and coaches,
out-polling runnerup Ollie
Schneiderjans of Georgia Tech, who scored his
third title of the school year in the Valsopar
Collegiate in Florida in March.
Ollie has now been runnerup for the award
twice in the past six months.
The coveted March-thru-October award, now in its 12th year, is one of many ways the SGA promotes and advances amateur golf, including its storied Southern Amateur, the 108th playing set for July at the exclusive Honors Course near Chattanooga.
