Salinas Match Play: Roberts, Pieper win titles
SALINAS, Calif. (March 25, 2014) -- Austin Roberts is the 2014 Salinas Amateur Match Play Champion.
Roberts, who has enjoyed plenty of success in AmateurGolf.com and NCGA events in the past few years, added to his resume with a resounding 7-and-6 championship-clinching win over David Moore in Sunday's finale at Salinas Fairways.
Roberts reached the finals with a 4-and-3 win over top-seeded Will Cross on Saturday. Roberts' run began after he shot 72 in stroke-play qualifying last weekend.
Moore shot 74 last weekend and had been on a roll. He reached the championship match with a win over Ken Munro in 20 holes in the semifinals.
Frank Pieper prevailed in the Senior flight, defeating Jim Knoll, 4-and-3 on Sunday.
Pieper shot 74 in qualifying and dispatched of Mike Parnow and Neil Duffy to reach the finale.
Knoll, who played also in the Championship flight as the No. 2 seed before falling in match play, reached the finals after a 76 in qualifying. He beat Rob Adolph and Mike Wishart to reach the championship match.
Jerry Armstrong (1st Flight), Suzy Duarte (2nd Flight) and Joan Gooder (3rd Flight) also won titles.

NCGA Points event. Tournament runs over two
weekends with qualifying the first day, then two
matches each day with a 36-hole final match for the
Championship flight and
an 18-hole final for all other flights (Senior/Super
Senior, and Net). Senior/Super
Senior flights are on the
second of the two weekends.
