W. Australia Am: Top seeds Luck, Green move on
Curtis Luck
SOUTH MELBOURNE, Victoria (March 14, 2014) -- Curtis Luck and Hannah Green both survived close quarter final matches to qualify for the WA State Amateur Championship semi finals today at Royal Perth Golf Club.
Luck will face Michael Montgomery of Mount Lawley Golf Club while the other semi final will be an all interstate affair, with NSW’s Cameron Davis facing Queenslands Shae Wools-Cobb.
Hannah Green will playoff against Royal Perth’s Nadine Smith, while Number 3 seed, Hayley Bettencourt will Saasha Callaghan of Royal Fremantle.
The marquee match of the day went to Luck and Jarryd Felton. Ranked Number 2 and 3 in the nation respectively, Luck raced out to an early 3-up lead, only for Felton to peg luck back to all square with two holes to play.
Hannah Green, the Women’s Medalist and Number 1 seed, battled throughout her Quarter Final against Jen Goh. It was a see-sawing affair, with Goh taking a slender 1-up lead four times throughout the match, only for Green to come back to All Square. All square with two to play, Green earned a win on 17 and 18 to secure a 2-up victory.
While three of the women’s top 5 seeds remain in contention for the WA Amateur title, two big seeds fell in the Men’s event, with Royal Perth superintendent Michal Dennis and Royal Fremantle’s Min Woo Lee suffering Quarter Final defeats.
