For the first time since August, there is a new No. 1 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Stanford junior Patrick Rodgers has jumped over reigning U.S. Amateur champion Matthew Fitzpatrick to take over the No. 1 spot.
Rodgers hurdled over Fitzpatrick after his victory at The Prestige at PGA West on Feb. 19.
He holds a 20.85 lead over Fitzpatrick, who in January decided to leave Northwestern after his first semester and concentrate on his golf game. Fitzpatrick hasn’t played in a tournament since the Gifford Collegiate in November. We expect to see Fitzpatrick back in action next month at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but nothing has been confirmed.
Rodgers is No. 13 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. He was also victorious at the Erin Hills Intercollegiate in October and has two other top-10 finishes. He was also on the winning U.S. Walker Cup team in September.
Rest of the top 10:
• 3. Cory Whitsett, USA, Alabama senior
• 4. Garrick Porteous, England, Tennessee graduate
• 5. Chang-woo Lee, South Korea
• 6. Jordan Niebrugge, USA, Oklahoma State sophomore
• 7. Sebastian Cappelen, Denmark, Arkansas senior
• 8. Oliver Goss, Australia, Tennessee sophomore
• 9. Greg Eason, England, Central Florida senior
• 10. Sam Horsfield, USA
