Golfweek Senior: Sharpe takes overall title

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2014) -- Stephen Sharpe shot a final-round 76 to win the 2014 Golfweek Senior National Championship held at Saddlebrook.
Sharpe, who entered the final round tied for hte lead alongside Hal Wright, nipped Mark Macejko by a shot for the overall title.
Sharpe put together rounds of 76-69 in the first two rounds, using his Friday 69 to catapult into contention and a tie for the lead.
Wright struggled with a final-round 79 and finished tied for fourth place alongside Doug Pool of Nevada, who shot 76-76-72.
Amateurgolf.com Player Staff Members Cy Whitney and Ken Larney took sixth and seventh, respectively. Larney shot the low round of the tournament -- a 4-under 66 -- on Saturday to climb into the Top 10.
Jim Rollefson completed his wire-to-wire victory in the Super Senior Division, shooting 72-70-74 for a four-shot victory over Jon Abbett.
In the Legends Division, Ray Darmstadt held on for the title. He led from the start and used rounds of 78-75-70 to clip Walt Martin, who finished two shots back.
