PALM BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 6, 2013) -- Sam Till Jr. of Ft. Wayne, Ind., scored a come-from-behind victory in the Golfweek Senior Tour Championship at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., after carding rounds of 74-73-72 for a 220 total. Till, who started the day tied for second, needed a final-round 72 to give him a one-shot victory over fellow Hoosier Bob Stephens. Stephens, from Indianapolis, finished alone in second after rounds of 74-74-73. "I didn't know what to expect from my game this week," Till said after his round. "I've tried to get out and play a little in Indiana but the weather has turned bad so I haven't been able to." Till and Stephens are not strangers to each other's game, having faced off in August during the final round of the Indiana Golf Association's Senior Amateur Championship. Till, who is a member of the Ft. Wayne, Ind. Hall of Fame, started that day six shots behind Stephens but wound up with a one-stroke victory after posting a low round 7-under 65. "I guess Bob is tired of seeing me after this and the Indiana Senior," Till said. "But we're good friends and we both want to compete and win." Vance Antoniou, who has had trouble stringing together three consecutive rounds in 2013, started the day with a three-shot lead. However, his final round 7-over 79 dropped him to a solo third-place finish. In the Super Senior division, Pat Vincelli of Stuart, Fla., posted rounds of 70-71-76, for a 217 total to take top honors. Vincelli, who has an impressive list of amateur victories, was two strokes better than second-place finisher Charles Bagby of Hobe Sound, Fla., who posted rounds of 75-72-72. In the Legends division, Jim DuBois of Coral Springs, Fla., held on for a one-shot victory after posting rounds of 75-75-82 for a 232 total. His closest rival was Gus Kozina of Beach Park, Ill., who finished second with a 233 total. The highlight of the day was the presentation of the Yancey Ford Award to John W. Harrigan, the retiring Executive Secretary of the Society of Seniors. The award is presented annually by Golfweek, honoring an individual who has made significant contributions to senior amateur golf. Next up is the Golfweek Senior National Championship, January 16-18 at Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa, Fla. Following the final round of play, Golfweek will present the Player of the Year awards to the top golfer in each division of the Golfweek Senior Amateur Rankings.
