Relax and Compete: 5 destination events for all skill levels
The recent news from the USGA regarding the newly-instituted National Four-Ball
Championships
have certainly started a buzz throughout the amateur golf community.
The team format is a popular one with Four-Ball events being among the most
highly-anticipated
events on state and regional golf association schedules each year.
But the handicap requirements of such better ball events might not keep the
majority of amateur
golfers in mind. Still, there are plenty of events across the country --- and
beyond --- that cater
to golfers of all skill levels.
Here are five team events to keep in mind when planning your next golf
getaway:
amateurgolf.com Bandon Dunes Two-Man Links Championship
: Scheduled for
May 4-7, 2014, the Two-Man Links Championship is the highlight of the
amateurgolf.com Tour
schedule. There are three divisions (scratch, senior scratch and net) and the
event is held at one
of the most beautiful resorts anywhere.
Scottsdale Open: Head to Scottsdale and three of the top
courses in the
Phoenix/Scottsdale region for the two-man better ball event. Players get a taste
of the PGA Tour's
Waste Management Open with a round at the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course. The
other rounds
are played at Grayhawk's Raptor Course and the Monument Course at Troon
North. Dates for 2014
have yet to be finalized.
Jamaica Pro-Am: Represent your club and play for prizes at
'Annie's
Revenge'. Played at two of Jamaica's premier courses, The White Witch and
Cinnamon Hill, the
Jamaica Pro-Am is equal parts vacation and competitive golf. With a variety of
formats, and a
variety of cocktails and Jamaican delicacies to enjoy, the Nov. 20-24 event is a
must play.
Pine Needles
Invitational: Head to one of the most historic areas in golf, the
Southern
Pines/Pinehurst are of North Carolina for the 54-hole four-ball stroke-play event.
The event is
held at the historic Donald Ross original Pine Needles. While you're there, visit
the newly-
renovated sister course, Mid-Pines, and take the short trek to Pinehurst Resort.
Dates for the
2014 event have not been finalized.
Bermuda Grand Slam Am: Play, stay and party like the
pros. The Grand
Slam Am event takes place during the PGA Tour's Grand Slam of Golf. Attendees
get to stay at
one of Bermuda's top resorts, participate in the Grand Slam Am event and take in
the action as
four of the PGA's best player battle for the Grand Slam of Golf title. Oh, did we
mention that the
final round is played at the prestigious Port Royal Golf Club, host of the Grand
Slam of Golf?
