Maryland Open: Amateurs lead the way
TOWSON, Maryland (July 8, 2013) -- Amateurs ruled Day 1 of play at the 2013 Maryland State Open at The Country Club of Maryland.
Keith Unkiel shot a 4-under 65 and leads by one shot.
He's one shot better than University of Virginia standout Denny McCarthy, who shot 66.
Along with McCarthy at 66 and tied for second is Matt Oshrine.
Ryan McCarthy and Joseph Rice IV are also in at 2-under and tied for fifth place.

Maryland State Open
This tournament is open to male amateurs
who
are residents of Maryland or members of
member clubs of the MSGA with an
up-to-date USGA index at that club of 5.4
or
less as, and to male professionals.
Open will be 54 holes of stroke play
with successive cuts to low 80 scores and
ties
and those within eight strokes of the low
score
and then low 40 scores and ties for the
final
round.
