Carter leads National Senior Hall of Fame
HIGH POINT, N.C. (June 19, 2013) -- Familiar names sit high atop the leaderboard at the 2013 National Senior Amateur Hall of Fame at Willow Creek Course and High Point Country Club.
Ron Carter of Indiana fired a first-round 5-under 67 and leads by two shots over defending champion Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C.
Simson, of course, topped the loaded field last year and is back for more. He also won in 2010.
Rick Cloninger of Fort Mill, S.C. is three back of Carter thanks to an opening 2-under 70.
A group of five players, including Paul Schlachter of Pittsburgh, sits tied for fourth at 1-under.
Stan Lee, the 2011 champion, is 1-over after Round 1 and tied for 10th place.
Larry Boswell leads the Super Senior flight after a first-round 1-under 71. Bill Lawler, Wayne Gardner and Robert Crawford are tied for second at 2-over 74.
