With a combination of their best distance and accuracy enhancing technologies, and the legacy of one of the best selling drivers ever, Callaway wants golfers to "Leave no Yard Behind"

Last year Callaway brought back the iconic name Big Bertha. And they did it proud. So good in fact, that many pros and top amateurs who hadn't played Callaway in a while literally did a "have you driven a Ford lately" type double-take when they saw what some of the technologies could do, such as the R*MOTO face and the industry- pioneering Gravity Core for fine-tuning spin rates.

But the Carlsbad, California based company left a name in their back pocket, the Great Big Bertha. That icon is back (with fairways to boot), with the promise of improving your "all around driving" stats through a combination of ball speed, launch conditions, and tight dispersion. Sound interesting? We think so. And before the end of the week, we'll be providing you a comprehensive product review. Until then, here's what you need to know.

THE LAUNCH (Excuse the pun...)

They first appeared on the USGA conforming list at the end of July. On August 4, Callaway officially announced the new Great Big Bertha Driver and Fairway Woods. They also announced the Big Bertha Alpha 816 Double Black Diamond Driver and Big Bertha Alpha 816 Fairway Woods for better players.

Great Big Bertha driver and fairway woods will be available at retail on August 28, and golfers can pre-order them starting August 14 on CallawayGol f.com. The driver will be offered in 9-, 10.5- and 13.5-degree lofts, and retail for $449.00. The GBB fairway will retail for $249.99.

GREAT BIG BERTHA DRIVER

The Great Big Bertha Driver looks great at address, with a matte grey top finish, chrome sides, high-tech sole and a head shape that blends the best of modern and traditional looks. This one's no throwback though -- it's designed with a multi- material club head, a next gen R*MOTO face for high ball speeds, and an adjustable sliding weight for more dispersion control without sacrificing forgiveness. The driver is designed for all golfers; as always I encourage those of you who always choose the "player's" model to consider trying both the Great Big Bertha and Big Bertha Double Black Diamond before jumping to conclusions about which one you need.

GREAT BIG BERTHA FAIRWAY WOOD

The Great Big Bertha fairway wood will be offered in a 3, 5, and 7-woods, plus, a Heavenwood and a Divine Nine.

SHAFT UPGRADES

Taking the theme discussed in their white paper, on the three reasons most golfers don't maximize their driver distance, both new Great Big Bertha products allow players to get professionally fitted for ideal launch conditions (one of the big three things, along with dispersion and ball speed discussed in the white paper) and then select from a comprehensive list of 19 different shafts, all available with no upcharge.
