Midland Country Club has hosted more important tournaments than any other course in West Texas. The course has been the host to the 1955 Ryder Cup Challenge Matches, two Men’s and two Women’s State Amateur Championships, two Trans-Miss Championships, the PGA Buy.com Permian Basin Open, and currently is the site of the Nationwide Permian Basin Charity Golf Classic. The course is best known for its tree-lined fairways and natural vegetation which lines the holes, creating a difficult test of driving, especially in the everpresent West Texas winds. The greens have some of the smoothest putting surfaces in the state.
