World Amateur: Dye Club at Barefoot to host championship round
MYRTLE BEACH, S. C. (April 10, 2013) -- The list of courses that have hosted the championship round of the Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship is short and distinguished, and one of Myrtle Beach’s best layouts will be adding its name to the list in 2013.
The Dye Club at Barefoot Resort will host the World Championship on August 30, crowning the winner of the 30th annual World Am. The Dye Club, which has been ranked among America’s Top 100 public courses, is a worthy successor to TPC Myrtle Beach, the host the previous three years.
“The Dye Club is an ideal venue to conclude the 30th annual Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship,” tournament director Jeff Monday said. “The golf course is among the best in America, and it’s a big-event facility. A field of nearly 3,500 golfers will be narrowed to flight winners, and the Dye Club will identify the most deserving champion.”
Dye Club, which has hosted the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am the last 11 years, has a private clubhouse and design to test the hottest players in the tournament.
Designed by the legendary Pete Dye, the course is complete with the octogenarian’s architects trademark features: ample mounding, a surplus of sand, and, of course, railroad ties.
The layout’s visuals are stunning. The sixth, ninth, 10th, 15th and 18th holes all standout amidst an impressive lineup.
The 18th is among Myrtle Beach’s best finishing holes. Measuring 415 yards from the member tees and 368 from the whites, No. 18 plays into the prevailing wind and water runs along the left side from tee to green. With the clubhouse veranda serving as the backdrop, it’s a fitting end to a top 100 round of golf and the Golf.com World Amateur Handicap Championship.
