SF City Championship: Senior Division Semi-final Results
By Lila Hillard, exclusive for amateurgolf.com

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 4, 2006) -- It was an Irish weather day – biting-cold and wind-swept- for the Senior Men’s Division semi-final play at Harding Park for the San Francisco City Golf Championships. Surviving the muddy fairways and the icy weather were two victors, Dave Carroll and Jim Early.

Carroll faced Frank Abbott in the first match, closing up the competition after the 16th hole, 3 and 2. Both play out of Silverado Golf Club.

“Frank and I are neighbors. We both wanted to play well and we did”, said Carroll. Both golfers played consistently well against each other and were close to par. The shot of the day that ultimately turned the round into a victory for Carroll was the putt Carroll made on the 11th hole. Putting from the fringe, Carroll sank a 75- footer to take the hole with a birdie.

“The greens played firmer this week than last week,” noted Abbott.

Also closing out his match on the 16th was the other winner, Jim Early of Pleasanton. In his match play competition, Early faced Ron Wiley of the San Francisco Golf Club and won 3 and 2.

Once again the competition was close and could have gone either way. “He won the first two holes, but then I birdied Number 4 and Number 12, going 1 up until 12”, Early stated, describing the action.

Carroll and Early face each other in an 18-hole final match Sunday, March 5th at 7:38 am at Harding Park to determine the 2006 City Senior Champion.
