David Denlinger builds Monroe lead
PITTSFORD, NY (June 13, 2012) -- Charleston Southern’s David Denlinger took an early lead Wednesday at the Monroe Invitational. The senior from Lancaster, Pa., shot a 6-under 64, which left him with a comfortable three-shot lead on Kent State’s Taylor Pendrith.
Denlinger shot back-to-back nine-hole scores of 32 in the first round at Monroe Golf Club in Pittsford, N.Y.. He had seven birdies, and carded his only bogey at the par-3 sixth hole.
Three players were tied for third at 2-under 68, including Binghamton’s Trevor Sluman, Gardner-Webb’s Daniel Kim and Texas A&M’s Tyler Dunlap.
Defending champin Albin Choi, a junior at North Carolina State, is not in the field.

The Monroe Invitational is held at Monroe Golf Club
in Pittsford, NY, and is one of the oldest amateur
tournaments in the United States, dating back to its
first playing in 1937. The course is a Donald Ross
design that is a Golfweek Top 100 Classic Course.
The tournament is a 72 hole stroke play event with a
54 hole cut. Invitations are sent out to exempt
players in early February, but the Tournament
Committee would encourage any interested players
to apply for a non-exempt invitation through the
tournament website.
