Nesmith wins the Azalea Invitational
Charleston, SC (April 1, 2012) -- North Augusta, SC resident Matthew Nesmith carded his third straight 66 to capture the 64th Azalea Invitational at the Country Club of Charleston Sunday.Nesmith's rounds of 72-66-66-66--270 totaled 12-under-par and he was three shots better than second-place finisher Jim Liu from Smithtown, NY (65-72-68-68--273).Keith Mitchell from Chattanooga, TN carded 70-69-60-65--274 to finish alone in third place.Michael Cromie, from Cary, NC, was tied with Nesmith going into Sunday, but a final round 74 push him back into a tie for ninth place.Pittsburgh, Penn. resident and 2011 U.S. Walker Cup team member, Nathan Smith signed for rounds of 72-69-66-72--279 and finished in a tie for 12th place.Nesmith is the the No. 7-ranked junior in the country and has committed to the University of South Carolina Gamecocks beginning the fall 2012 semester.Wales' Rhys Enoch, the 27th-ranked player in the world, finished in a tie for 19th, shooting 76-69-69-70--284.
