amateurgolf.com Kiawah Island 2-Man: Rd.2 results
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (March 10, 2008)-- The Georgian tandem of Keith Holmes and Rocky Costa followed up their impressive first round of 64 with another solid outing, this time posting a second-round 67 at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Turtle Point Golf Club to open up a four stroke lead at the amateurgolf.com Kiawah Island Two-Man.

Jeff Corken, one of their playing partners, described their game Monday as "flawless."

"Not only are they long, but they didn't miss any fairways all day," said Corken. "And they also converted a few 30-foot putts."

Stan Hall and Jud Grace also carded a 64 in the first round, but lost some ground after finishing the day at 1-under 71.

The duo actually had an over-par score staring them in the face until Hall holed out a wedge shot for eagle-2 on the 17th hole to end the day for the pair on a high note. Trying to spark a run over the last few holes, Grace and Hall put a friendly bet of a glass of scotch on the line, which led Grace to very nearly duplicate Hall's shot on 17, knocking his wedge shot to three feet.

Greg Wardle and Gary Young cut seven strokes from their previous day's total to tie for the low round of the day, 67, and move into third place.

In the net division, Gary Meadors and Roy Paxon, both of Jacksonville Beach, came down a bit from their impressive 59 on Day 1, but still extended their lead to five strokes over Sandy Burgess and Chris Wilson.

The senior flight is the most competitive of the tournament, with Dann and Dave Merrell locked in a tie with Michael Pierce and Roger Wagner at 141.

None of the division contests could be considered finished however, not with the Kiawah's Ocean Course (site of the 2012 PGA Championship) still on the horizon. Recently ranked by Golf Digest as the toughest course in the country. Playing at 6,741 for the scratch flight and 6200+ for the net and senior, Tuesday's final round should give players all the golf they can handle, especially if the wind kicks up.
