PALM CITY, FL (November 5, 2017) - It was Gene Elliot and then everybody else this weekend at the Crane Cup Senior Invitational at the Floridian.

Elliot took the lead on day one with a 3-under 69 before posting the same score on Saturday. His round on Saturday included a hole-in-one on the 16th hole. Beginning the day ahead by seven shots Elliot extended his lead with a 5-under 67 for his third consecutive sub-par round of the tournament. The victory for Elliot was his third AGC ranking event win of the season to go along with wins at the Canadian Senior Amateur and Trans-Mississippi Senior.

Hudson, 3-over, was second, George Zahringer took third at 6-over, the 7-over Grady Brame was fourth while 12th ranked Brady Exber, Todd Roberts and Bradley Kropp shared fifth at 8-over.

The Crane Cup was started in 2012 by Houston business magnate Jim Crane, who in the previous year took control of the Floridian on the same day that he closed the deal to purchase the Houston Astros baseball team. Crane created his namesake tournament to be a celebration of competitive amateur golf, and has competed himself in the senior division. Five years later, both ventures had grown to be huge successes: the Crane Cup as an important national mid-amateur/senior championship, and the Houston Astros as World Series champions, the first in the history of the franchise.
