SANDWICH, ENGLAND (June 22, 2017) - Eight players remain at The 122nd Amateur Championship after a grueling day at Royal St. George's.
The quarterfinalists each played two matches Thursday while enduring a lengthy weather delay, as lightning stopped play for over two hours. The final match of the day concluded in the fading light at around 8:30pm local time.
Two Italians--Stefano Mazzoli and Luca Cianchetti--have made it to the final eight, along with Alejandro Tosti of Argentina, Dylan Perry of Australia, Jarle Kaldestad Volden of Norway, Paul McBride of Ireland, Harry Ellis of England, and Fredrik Nilehn of Sweden.
The quarterfinal matches will tee off on Friday at 8:30am local time and it will be another full day of golf to pare the field down to the final two who will play for the championship on Saturday.

This championship, along with the US Amateur Golf
Championship, is considered the most important in
amateur golf.
The first stage of the Championship involves 288
players each of whom plays two rounds of 18 holes,
one to be played on each of the two courses. The 64
lowest scores over the 36 holes and ties for 64th
place will compete in the match play stage of the
Championship. Each match will consist of one round
of 18 holes except the Final which will be over 36
holes.
