Jon Kennedy opens Georgia Mid-Amateur with a 6-under 66

CARTERSVILLE, GA (May 19, 2017) - Jon Kennedy of Macon goes low in round one to post a 6-under-par 66, which leads the Georgia Mid-Amateur Championship by one stroke. The 36th edition of this event is taking place at Cartersville Country Club, May 19-21.
Kennedy recorded a bogey-free round of six birdies on holes one, four, six, seven, nine and 11 for the 66 total. Four players sit one stroke behind Kennedy at 5-under-par 67, including local product Cres Dodd of Calhoun, 2004 Georgia Amateur champion David Denham of Athens, three-time Georgia Mid-Amateur and two-time Georgia Amateur winner David Noll, Jr., of Dalton and Christian Raynor of Kennesaw.
The defending champion, John Engler, Jr., of Augusta, carded a round of 1-over-par 73. Through 18 holes, 23 players scored rounds in red numbers at Cartersville Country Club.
Shot of the day went to Matthew Hayes of Marietta who recorded a hole-in-one on the 194-yard 16th hole on Friday. He posted a 1-over-par 73 and is tied for 29th after round one.
