Ball State Wins Pinehurst Intercollegiate

Medalist honors went to William Harwood of Elon who finished 3-over
INEHURST, NC (March 11, 2017) -- It was a seven-stroke victory for Ball State (+30) this weekend at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. Ball State began the final round at Pinehurst No. 8 leading by a shot before ultimately pulling away on Saturday to win their first event of the year.
Leading the way for Ball State this week was runner-up Timothy Wiseman who tallied a 54-hole 4-over score.
Two others for Ball State finished inside the top-10 with Johnny Watts and Michael Makris tying for seventh at 8-over.
Behind the Cardinals in the team standings came first round leader Old Dominion (+37) and Elon (+37) in second place while Dayton (+43) and Longwood (+43) shared fourth.
Medalist honors went to William Harwood of Elon who finished 3-over thanks to rounds of 73-72-71.
In the final round Harwood was still able to finish on top despite carding a triple-bogey and two bogeys. Harwood was able to offset the struggles with five birdies, including three in a row from Nos. 5-7.
Ball State's Wiseman was second in the individual standings, Jordan Boulton (Longwood) at 6-over was third while three others shared fourth at 7-over.
ROUND TWO RECAP
In Friday's afternoons second round Ball State was able to move in front at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. They will now carry a single shot lead into the final round at Pinehurst No. 8.
Ball State, 22-over, presently has four players inside the top-10 of the standings; Johnny Watts (T5; +4), Timothy Wiseman (T5; +4), Michael VanDeventer who recorded an ace on No. 13 (T9; +7) and Michael Makris (T9; +7).
First round leader Old Dominion (+23) will begin the final round in second place, Elon (+27) is in third, Dayton (+32) is in fourth while Longwood (+34) is fifth.
The individual race is being headed up by Matt Naumec of Boston College. Following rounds of 72-71 Naumec is 1-over and ahead of Longwoods Jordan Boulton by a stroke.
Antonio Cruz-Conde (Old Dominion) and William Harwood (Elon) are tied for third at 3-over while Myles Creighton (Radford), Watts and Wismen are share fifth at 4-over.
ROUND ONE RECAP
With a strong effort across the board Old Dominion is the first round leader at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate. With a first day total of 292 at Pinehurst No. 8 the Monarchs will lead by four-strokes when play resumes on Saturday.
Chad Hess had the round of the day for Old Dominion with a 1-over 72 and he is tied for fourth. One shot behind Hess are David Langley and Antonio Cruz-Conde in a tie for seventh at 2-over. Michael Bakker and Calvin Greschner are tied for 13th following 3-over 74's.
Trailing Old Dominion in the team standings are second place Elon (296), third place Longwood (299), Ball State (300) is in fourth while Radford (302) is in fifth.
Currently three players are sharing the medalist lead at even-par; Jordan Boulton (Longwood), Johnny Watts (Ball State) and Myles Creighton (Radford).
Boulton turned in a scorecard that included two birdies and a double-bogey, Watts tallied three birdies on his day but also a bogey and a double-bogey while Creighton birdied three-times and bogeyed three-times.
Along with Hess, Jacob Poore (Northern Kentucky) and Matt Naumec (Boston College) are tied for fourth.
