NORMAN, OK (March 10, 2017) -- In this edition of
the Division I Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll,
Vanderbilt kept a firm grasp on the top spot keeping
its 13 first-place votes after finishing sixth at the
Querencia Cabo Intercollegiate tournament. The
Commodores have kept the top spot for three
straight rankings.
There is much movement in the rest of the top
25 as no team kept its previous rank. Virgina moved
up to No. 2 with three first-place votes. Oklahoma
State moved to third, appearing on one first-place
ballot. Florida and USC both dropped in the
rankings, to Nos. 4 and 5 respectively, despite two
first-place tallies each. Illinois checked in at No. 6
and is followed by Baylor, LSU, Stanford and
Oregon.
Arkansas, Georgia Tech and Kent State rejoined
the ranking. Kennesaw State, Mississippi and North
Carolina fell from the top 25.
Some Notes
The biggest leap in the latest Bushnell Golfweek
Coaches Poll came from Kent State as they went
from unranked to No. 15. Kent State has played just
once this fall picking up a win at the
Louisiana Classics in February.
Texas A&M made a sizable jump as well moving
up ten spots to No. 22. In the last few weeks the
Aggies have finished second at the John A. Burns
Intercollegiate and the Louisiana Classics.
Two other teams, Baylor and Clemson, moved
up seven spots. Baylor cracked the top 10 at No. 7
thanks to a win at the All American and a runner-
up showing at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate.
Clemson made the jump to No. 14 with wins at the
Puerto Rico Classic and
Palmetto
Intercollegiate.
