In the Senior Division the duo of Preston Edmondson and Paul Simson held on for a three shot victory

SOUTHERN PINES, NC (March 5, 2017) -- Scott Harvey and Brian Westveer took the lead in the first round on Friday and they never looked as they went onto win the 23rd playing of the Pine Needles Invitational by five shots. Playing at the Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, Harvey and Westveer combined rounds of 63-66-65 to cruise to a 194 total and their fourth event title and first since 2014. Steve Liebler and Daniel Neveu (71-65-63--199) were second, Mark Gauley and Brian Gauley (67-68-69--204) were third, Sam O'Dell and Pat Carter (71-72-66--209) teamed for a fourth place finish while Phillip Reale and Jonathan Hill (68-70-72--210); Michael and Hunter Hammett (67-72-71) shared fifth. In the Senior Division Preston Edmondson and Paul Simson (71-65-66--202) started as the leaders by one before going onto to win by three-strokes. Gary Robinson and Jack Nance (69-69-67--205) were second, Bailey Patrick and Nolan Mills (70-68-68--206) ended up in third, Sherrill Britt and John Romaine (70-67-71--208) were fourth while Allen Barber and Charlie Green (70-70-70--210) concluded the top-5. 36-HOLE RECAP 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Scott Harvey and Brian Westveer have combined rounds of 63-66 and at 129 they will carry a six-stroke lead into the final round of the Pine Needles Invitational. The duo of Harvey and Westveer carried a four shot lead into round two at the Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club and thanks to the round of the day they were able to extend their lead by two more strokes. Harvey, the second ranked player in the AmateurGolf.com Mid-Amateur Rankings, is looking to put together yet another strong season and after a 13th place finish at the South American Amateur he is well on his way. The team of Mark Gauley and Brian Gauley (67-68--135) are in second place, Scott Campbell and Starell Cox Jr. (69-67--136); Steve Liebler and Daniel Neveu (71-65--136) are sharing third while three other teams are at 138 and tied for fifth. In the Senior Division the duo of Preston Edmondson and Paul Simson (71-65--136) are leading the way. The lead group will carry a one shot lead into the final round over Sherrill Britt and John Romaine (70-67--137). Gary Robinson and Jack Nance (69-69--138); Bailey Patrick and Nolan Mills (70-68--138) are tied for third while Harold Payne and Steve Fox (69-70--139) sit in fifth.
