On Thursday Theegala will make his PGA Tour debut when he steps to the 10th tee at 2:20 p.m. PST playing alongside Wesley Bryant and 2011 U.S. Amateur and Trans-Mississippi winner Kelly Kraft. The group will then go off the first hole on Friday at 8:25 a.m.

Last year Theegala reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur as the 61st seed and now he will get an extra long look at the site of the 2017 version.

Theegala began his 2017 spring season with a fifth place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate after ending his year with a tied for third showing at the Patriot All-America in December.

This week Theegala is hoping to become the second of three Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase winners to make the cut. Inaugural winner Will Zalatoris of Wake Forest missed the cut before Charlie Danielson of Illinois made the cut a year ago.

ABOUT THE Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase

The Genesis Open Collegiate Showcase was founded in 2015 and it is a chance for collegiate players to play with alumni from their respective school. Two simultaneous competitions take place:

In the individual competition, the collegiate players will play their own ball to record an 18-hole score. The low collegian is awarded a playing spot in the Northern Trust Open.

In the team competition, the professional and the two amateurs (playing at specified percentage of their most current and verified handicap) will team up to play a best ball format (one-ball). The low Professional and Amateurs team will take home the Champions Trophy for their school and a check for $50,000.00, going to their universities golf program.
