James Starnes captures the Senior Dixie Amateur

CORAL SPRINGS, FL (November 17, 2016) -- It was a nip and tuck final day but in the end James Starnes (Ft. Myers, FL) was able to capture the Senior Dixie Amateur and his second AmateurGolf.com Senior Ranking victory of the season. With rounds of 76-75-77 Starnes was able to finish 12-over and ahead of second place finisher Ben Whipple (Marietta, SC) by a stroke.

Starnes, the fourth ranked senior in the AmateurGolf.com Rankings, also won the Society of Seniors Founders Cup this year and has now finished inside the top-10 in 13 ranking events. This past September Starnes made his return to USGA competition after a 42 year absence at the U.S. Senior Amateur advancing to match play.

Robbie Dew (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) and Robert Wagner (St. Davids, PA) both finished third at 14-over while Ian Harris (Bloomfield Hills, MI) ended up fifth at 15-over.

In the Super Senior Division Jeffrey Knox (Brecksville, OH) was able to emerge after finishing regulation tied with Jim Dubois (Coral Springs, FL). The two finished the final round 17-over before Knox prevailed on the first playoff hole, the 18th.

Defending champion Robert Rogoff (Coral Springs, FL) was three back in third while Keith Keister (Orlando, FL) was fourth and Jim Rollefson (Naples, FL) was fifth.

ABOUT THE Dixie Senior & Mid-Master

The senior version of the Dixie Amateur Championship added a Mid-Master division starting in 2019. 54-hole stroke play event with no cut. Mid-Master (ages 40- 54), Senior (ages 55-64) and Super Senior (65+) Divisions. The tournament has long drawn some of the country's top senior golfers to South Florida -- Doug Hanzel (2013-2014, 2017); Brady Exber (2012); and Rick Woulfe (an amazing 7 titles, his latest in 2015) are among the past champions.
