Peyton Dix snags 54-hole Greystone Invitational lead

BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 24, 2016) -- Future University of Memphis golfer Peyton Dix fired a bogey-free 3-under 69 in the third round and took the lead at the Greystone Invitational. After beginning the day in a three-way tie for first Dix has moved to 8-under at Greystone Country Club's Founders Course and leads by one.

Dix birdied two of the first three holes to reach 7-under and after a run of pars he carded a 2-under 34 on the opening side. The strong play for the junior star continued on the second nine with a 13th hole birdie that was part of a 1-under 35 backside. In his last 36-holes Dix has carded just one bogey, which came on the 8th hole of Thursday's second round.

Current Memphis golfer Taylor McCullum began the day with a share of the lead and played well on Friday, shooting a 2-under 70. McCullum is now 7-under, in second place and one-stroke off the pace. In the third round the rising redshirt sophomore birdied five and bogeyed three. A closing bogey prevented McCullum from starting the final day even with Dix.

Taylor Riggs (Eastern Kentucky) and Michael Perras (Houston) are tied for third at 5-under. They will begin Saturday's final round three shots behind.

Mid-amateur Woodie Eubanks was part of the three-way tie for the lead after 36-holes before struggling on the third day with a 2-over 74. Eubanks is now 3-under and tied for sixth.

ROUND TWO RECAP

A trio of players will carry the lead into the third round of the Greystone Invitational. Playing on the Greystone Country Club's Founders Course Taylor McCullum, Peyton Dix and mid-amateur Woodie Eubanks are 5-under and ahead by one.

Woodie Eubanks, of Trussville, AL, had the best round of the day with a 5-under 67. The 2008 Greystone Invitational winner started his round on the 10th and quickly fell to 2-over after bogeys on two of his first three holes. However, instead of falling out of contention Eubanks dug deep and played himself firmly into the mix.

Eubanks run started on the 13th with a birdie and continued with birdies on 14 and 16. On his second nine, the front side, Eubanks tallied four more birdies to finish his final nine in 4-under 32.

Future Memphis Tiger Peyton Dix posted a 4-under 68 in the second round. Dix birdied five holes and bogeyed just one. Dix birdied the 2nd and 3rd holes in succession and then had three birds in a four hole stretch on the back nine.

Current Memphis Tiger Taylor McCullum shot a 2-under 70 to grab his share of the second round lead. McCullum birdied six holes and bogeyed four in the round. All six of McCullium's birdies came during a nine hole run from the 7th-15th.

Stephen Stallings Jr. (Kentucky) is 4-under and in fourth place one behind. Three players are 3-under and tied for fifth.

First round leader Aaron Walker (Samford) fell to 1-over after a 6-over 78 in the second. He will begin the weekend six-strokes behind.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Aaron Walker was impressive on day one of the Greystone Invitational as he posted a 5-under 67 on Wednesday. Walker will carry a two-stroke lead into second round play at Greystone Country Club's Founders Course.

Walker, a rising sophomore at Samford played lights out golf on the front nine with five birdies and a bogey to turn in 4-under 32. The birdies came on holes 1, 2, 5, 6 and 8 as Walker twice carded consecutive birdies.

The strong play for the Samford sophomore continued on the back nine with two more birdies and only one bogey.

Walker will lead a half of dozen golfers who are tied for second after 3-under 69's. The second place group includes Michael Perras (Houston), Taylor McCullum (Memphis), Tyler Hitchner (Alabama), future Vanderbilt golfer Mason Greenberg, James Medley (North Alabama) and Connor Slane (Middle Tennessee).

An additional seven players are three behind at 2-under while eight more are 1-under.

72-hole tournament, cut to the low-60 plus ties after 36 holes. Committee accepts the lowest 124 applicants based on USGA index signed by a golf professional. Greystone Country Club's slope is 146 and the rating 74.1 and was designed by Rees Jones in 2000. The Legacy Course is a magnificent test of golf. Out of state players are encouraged to apply.
