Women's W. AUSTRALIA AM: Jessica Whitting captures crown
WEST AUSTRALIA, AUS (March 13, 2016)--No. 2 Jessica Whitting upended No. 4 seed Ebony Heard 8-and-6 in championship match of the Women's Australian Amateur.
It was the first state title in Whitting's career. She will be heading to the United States later in the year to play college golf.
“This is amazing, it was such a great experience,” Whitting told reporters following the round. “I’m going to take a lot out of this event, it’s already taken a lot out of me.”
Whitting reached the final played at Cottesloe Golf Club following a dramatic semifinal win. It took Whitting 19 holes to finally dispose of No. 6 Alysha Ahnantakrishnan.
Tournament play began on Wednesday with the first of two stroke play rounds. Following the completion of day two the top-16 competitors advanced to the match play portion of the event.
