SEA ISLAND, Ga. -- Savannah, Ga. native John Skeadas will take a 2-shot lead into the final round of the Jones Cup Senior.
Skeadas fired a round of even-par 70 Tuesday which bested first-round leader David Nelson by five-shots and vaulted him into the lead after a first round 71. Skeadas finished 4th place in this event last year and looks to improve on that with a win on Wednesday.
Closely trailing Skeadas are Mark Weston (71,72) and a pack of four golfers at four-over par.
ROUND ONE STORY
Reno, Nv. native David Nelson is the only player under par after day one at the Jones Cup Senior.
Nelson's 1-under 69 included four birdies, three of which came on his back-nine, leading to a closing 33. Nelson leads by one shot over multiple USGA Mid-am matchplay qualifier Doug Stiles. Stiles, an Athens, Ga. native, played very consistent golf with 16 pars and one bogey offset by a birdie.
Defending Champion Jack Hall opened with a 5-over 75 and sits in a tie for 18th place. 36-holes remain to decide the champion of the 4th annual Jones Cup Senior.
