Davis Shore captures Jones Cup Junior title
Davis Shore
SEA ISLAND, Ga. — University of Alabama commit Davis Shore of Knoxville, Tenn. posted impressive rounds of 68-71-67 at Sea Island to win the Jones Cup Junior Invitational by two on Monday.
With the victory, Shore earns an exemption into the highly heralded Jones Cup Invitational hosted at Ocean Forest Golf Club to be played February 5-7, 2016. The event was won in 2015 by Austin Connelly of Canada, who has since gone on to turn professional.
Wocheng Ye was the 36-hole leader heading into Monday's third and final round, but the Chinese junior residing in Lake Mary, Fla. made no birdies in his closing round, posting 2-over par 72 and settling for a tie for third place with Brandon Yoon of Brambleton, Virginia.
Shore, on the other hand, went out in even-par 35 before going bogey-free, with three consecutive birdies on holes 14-16, on the back side to post 32 and a total of 67 for a two-stroke win.
Shore, with his commitment, will play for the Crimson Tide beginning in the 2017-2018 collegiate season.
John Pak of New Jersey, another 2017 graduate, took second place. His 2-under 68 on Monday had him, through 13 holes, two strokes ahead of Shore but Pak finished the final five at 1-over.
Youxin Wang and S.M. Lee rounded out the top-five, coming in at an even-par 210.
