Two teams share lead at Georgia Four-Ball
VALDOSTA, Ga. — Two teams share the lead at 9-under-par 135 going into the final round of the Georgia Four-Ball Tournament - David Matthews and Doug Rayford, both of Valdosta (69-66), and Philip Hughes of Kennesaw and Matt Oxford of Rocky Face (65-70). The 27th edition of this event is taking place at both Valdosta Country Club and Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, March 27-29.

Matthews and Rayford won this event in 2011. Four strokes back of the co-leaders is the duo of Matt Kubis of Norcross and John Riordan of Duluth at 5-under-par 139 (67-72).

Flights four through seven are competing at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club just down the road from Valdosta Country Club. Nick Beatty of Marietta and Philip Beatty of Roswell combined to lead flight four at 1-under-par 143 (75-68). Two teams lead flight five at 2-over-par 146, including Dwight Hefner and Duane McMullen, both of Dalton (74-72), and Al Adcock of Woodstock and Paul Terry of Acworth (73-73). In the sixth flight, Johnny Faulk of Kennesaw and Randy Hewatt of Marietta posted a 8-over-par 152 (74-78) to lead. Steve Blair of Gainesville paired with Bud Chandler of Flowery Branch for a 10-over-par 154 (81-73) to lead flight seven.

Entries were open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who belong to a GSGA member club and have combined USGA Handicap Indexes of 4.0 and above and a maximum differential of six strokes. The Championship through third flights are competing at Valdosta Country Club, while flights four through seven play at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.

ABOUT THE Georgia Four-Ball Tournament

The Georgia Four-Ball Tournament, held annually since 1989, is open to male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and are residents of Georgia. The format is four-ball stroke play.

Entries: Open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who have combined USGA Handicap Indexes of 4.0 and above and a maximum differential of 6 strokes

Field: 96 teams -- 82 teams determined by lottery, three spots reserved for each host club and one spot reserved for each of the previous year's flight winners
