SANTA CRUZ, Calif. — Shooting seven-under par 63 at the Alister Mackenzie-designed Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. were Southern California residents Satch Herrmann and Daniel Ragsdale. Their round, which included two stretches of three straight birdies, was low by two shots.

Herrmann played collegiately for Ventura College before transferring to California State-Northridge. His final season was 2010-2011, where he competed in seven tournaments for the Matadors and averaged 78.

Tying for second place at Pasatiempo were Stanford golfers Maverick McNealy and Viraat Badhwar. The pair shot five-under 65 despite a bogey on the final hole. McNealy, a sophomore, has three individual wins in his second season, including a victory at The Prestige at PGA WEST. The Cardinal finished at the event, with the Australian Badhwar finishing in a tie for 18th.

Brothers Hussain and Ahmed Ali also shot 65 on Monday and will be headed to The Olympic Club in May. The Ali brothers' round featured no bogeys.
