RUMFORD, R.I. (June 20, 2014) -- Stewart Jolly remains in the lead but a proven winner isn't far behind after the third round at the 2014 Northeast Amateur.

Jolly, an LSU golfer who'll be a member of the U.S. Palmer Cup next week at Walton Heath Club, shot a Friday 69 and leads by one shot entering Saturday's final round. Jolly has led since the start but his lead shrunk to just one shot after the red-hot 4-under 65 from Jordan Niebrugge on Friday.

Niebrugge, who plays at Oklahoma State, is at 3-under, and of course, went on a hot streak last summer while winning the U.S. Amateur Public Links, Wisconsin State Amateur and Western Amateur in successive weeks before being named to the U.S. Walker Cup team.

After Friday's round, it's clear that he's aiming for another marquee title in his first trip to the prestigious Northeast Amateur.

Jolly, though, won't be outdone.

With Niebrugge in the clubhouse at 3-under following his spectacular round -- including four birdies and a 31 on the back nine, Jolly birdied his final two holes to retake the lead and set the stage for what's sure to be a wild finale from the Donald Ross-designed Wannamoisett Country Club.

UNLV's Kurt Kitayama shot a third-round 69 and remains in the hunt. He's alone in third place but just four shots back entering the final round.

Georgia Tech's Seth Reeves carded a 71 and fell to fourth place -- a shot ahead of U.S. Junior champ Scott Scheffler and Chelso Barrett, a New England native who made a deep run at the 2012 U.S. Junior.

The Northeast, of course, is a veritable who's who of the amateur golf world. Many of the game's top collegiate, junior and mid-amateur stars are in the field fighting for one of the game's best titles.

Also in the hunt entering the final round inside of 10 shots of the lead are Texas' Kramer Hickock, Lee McCoy of Georgia.

Scott Harvey's remains the top mid-amateur. The Greensboro, N.C. native is tied for ninth after rounds of 73-69-70.
