World Am low gross winners, field announced
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Aug. 29, 2013) -- The field for the Championship Round of the 2013 World Amateur Handicap Championship is set.
More than 70 golfers will be taking aim at the overall handicap title Friday at the Dye Course at Barefoot Resort.
Friday also marks the inaugural grouping for the event's low gross players. The low gross competitors in each of the event's five divisions will be part of the field in the championship round and they'll be competing for the overall gross title.
All low gross winners will receive a terrific prize package sponsored by amateurgolf.com. The package includes a 30th anniversary World Amateur Original Jones Golf bag and amateurgolf.com memberships.
This is the first year the event has put a premium on gross play and the turnout was terrific. Here are the low-gross winners who will be competing Friday for the overall gross title:
Men's 49 & Under: Lyon Lazare (Villa Park, CA), 77-70-75-71--293
Men's Senior: Mike Westrum (Humble, TX), 72-70-78-73--293
Men's Mid-Senior: Lynn Cormier (Missouri City, TX), 75-72-72-77--296
Men's Super Senior: Ray Darmstadt (Cocoa Beach, CA), 75-75-77-71--298
Women's Division: Gigi Kimball (Cape Coral, FL), 74-75-72-70--291
*Note: Westrum will also be vying for the net championship after winning his flight during qualifying.
