ATLANTA, Ga. (June 28, 2008)--Now that is how you finish a tournament.
USC rising junior Rory Hie fired a tournament record-tying 10-under-par 62 at the Druid Hills Golf Club to win The Dogwood Invitational by three strokes over 54-hole leader Jonathan Hodge.
Hie finished at 21-under-par 267 over 72 holes.
Hodge, a member of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golf team, was the runner-up at 270, followed by Hudson Swafford, Harris English, Carlton Forrester and Mark Strickland at 273.
Despite firing three straight rounds in the 60's, Hie found himself tied for 5th, five strokes behind Hodge heading into the final day. His finishing kick was even more impressive considering he overtook seven golfers by finishing with 6 straight birdies and a back nine score of 29.
Hie's career low before the round was 66, which he carded at the Pac-10 Championship in 2007. He recently finished T-13 at the NCAA D-I Championship where the Trojans fell one stroke short of crosstown rivals UCLA for the title.
In the senior division, Johnny Dennis went wire-to-wire, including a final-round 69 to take the victory.
He finished at 212, two strokes better than runner-up Dick Van Leuvan.
