The Druid Hills Golf Club was founded in 1912 as a part of Frederick Olmstead plan for the neighborhood. George Adair campaigned for the course and was the founder of the club. Herbert H. Barker, one of the best golf architects at the time, was hired to design the club's eighteen-hole golf course. A petition to start the golf club was signed by 60 Atlantans, a veritable Who's Who of Atlanta in 1912. It was the first petition for a golf club in Atlanta. The club also had the support of the powerful Candlers who viewed the Druid Hills Golf Club as an important selling point in attracting people to purchase building lots. The golf club had no problem attracting members. Today, the club has more than 1,000 members. The Druid Hills Golf Club also boasts eleven tennis courts, a full-sized pool, a formal dining room, causal snack bars, a fitness center, sauna, and other amenities. Bobby Jones, a Georgia Tech graduate, won the club championship at the age of 14.
