Matt Elliott wraps up Carolinas Open low-amateur honors

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. — Matt Elliott secured low-amateur honors on Thursday at the Carolinas Open. With steady rounds of 71, 72, and 71, the UNC-Pembroke junior Matt Elliott from Wilkesboro, N.C. tied for fifth place, 10 behind winner Jerry Haas.

Elliott was the highest finishing amateur player in the field by seven shots, seven ahead of former Newberry College golfer Ryan Wilkinson.

At one-over par 214, Elliott may have been double digits back of the winning player, but he was just four off of second place, with Haas finishing six ahead of Savio Nazareth.

ABOUT THE Carolinas Open

54-hole stroke play. The field will be reduced to the low 60 contestants (or 1/3 of the field if 140 or less) and ties after 36 holes. Open to CPGA Members and Apprentices who are otherwise eligible as prescribed by the CPGA Tournament Rules and Regulations and Amateurs who reside in North or South Carolina and have a current USGA Handicap Index of 5.5 or less at the time of entry deadline, verified by a CPGA Professional.
