WATERTOWN, Wisc. (July 27, 2015) — Rebecca Klongland, the petite 5’4” University of Wisconsin sophomore from Stoughton, WI, certainly packs a big game in her tiny frame. Big enough to bring her a second state Wisconsin Women’s Amateur title in a row.

"I try my best to be as consistent as I can," Klongland told Madison.com. "I know I'm not going to be able to compete with people who are hitting it out there 250 or 260 (yards). I just try to play as steady as I can. I'm sure she's trying to do the same thing. Win some; lose some."

She finished the tournament by posting a 71, matching her first round score as the low round of the tournament, and in between carded a 73 to finish with a 2-over 215, eight strokes ahead of second place finisher and Badger teammate Gabby Curtis.

"She was just really steady," Curtis said to Madison.com. "I think I maybe tried to take a few chances. She was playing more conservative and I was playing more agressive."

As her scores would indicate, Klongland played steady golf without having some of the blow-ups that wreaked havoc on the rest of the field. While she made her bogeys, she found redemption in the birdies she made this week. But it was the pars that kept her in it. She had six in a row on the front nine of her final round before getting back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8 and 9.

"Lots of pars," Klongland told Madison.com about her round. "I like being in that position. It kind of puts me in control. I'm really just playing against myself. I want to do the best I can and I'm not concerned how everyone else is doing."

She didn’t have to really worry about anyone else. After Curtis at 8 strokes behind, the next nearest competitor was Sydney Wells, who finished third, at 12 shots back.
