SKY VALLEY, Ga. --- Avery George of Perry posted a 1-under-par 71 in the final round to win the Georgia Top 60 Women's Classic at 1-under-par 143. The 34th playing of this competition took place at Sky Valley Country Club, June 30-July 1.

George claimed the title by two strokes over Teresa Caballer Hernani of Augusta, who finished at 1-over-par 145 (75-70) to earn runner-up honors. To begin the 36-hole competition, George started a bit shaky with a double-bogey on her first hole. She then made birdie on three, but doubled hole five. She birdied seven to make the turn at 2-over-par 38. On the back nine, George made birdie on 12 and 16 to finish round one at even-par 72.

George, who plays college golf at Middle Tennessee State University, began the final round on Wednesday with the lead and it ended the same way. She bogeyed the first hole, but was steady with pars on holes two through eight. Making birdie on nine, she turned with a 36. Over her final nine holes of the competition, George made a birdie on 15 and pars everywhere else to secure her first victory on the GSGA circuit.

Two players tied for third at 5-over-par 149, including Amira Alexander of Alpharetta (76-73) and Stephanie Bennett of Appling (74-75). Megan Alyse Sabol of Martinez (77-73) and Hannah Barger of Elberton (76-74) tied for fifth at 6-over-par 150. Brenda Pictor of Marietta (77-75) and Eunice Yi of Evans (75-77) share seventh place at 8-over-par 152. Anna Buchanan of Athens finished ninth at 9-over-par 153 (78-75). Rounding out the overall top 10 were three players at 10-over-par 154 - Sarah Harrison of Martinez (79-75), Sabrina Long of Milton (78-76) and Louise Yu of Duluth (75-79).

Claiming the overall title, George also won the Championship flight. In flight one, Sabol won with a 6-over-par 150 (77-73). Barger topped flight two at 6-over-par 150 (76-74). In flight three, Cameron Daniel of Sharpsburg posted a 19-over-par 163 (81-82).

Due to severe weather in the area during Tuesday's opening round, the horns blew at 12:27 p.m. signaling a suspension of play. Fifty-one minutes later at 1:18 p.m., play resumed.

Entries were open to female amateur golfers who are GSGA members and have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 15.0. The field consists of the 60 entrants with the lowest USGA Handicap Indexes. Sky Valley Country Club, which hosted its first GSGA competition, played to 5,956 yards and a par of 72.
