Eastern Amateur: Hickman pulls away
by Jack Persons, AmateurGolf.com
PORTSMOUTH, Va. (July 10, 2014) --
Through two rounds at the Eastern Amateur, Christopher Hickman is looking unstoppable.
Hickman posted 61-64 on Friday—he finished both rounds due to a storm delay on Thursday— for a 15-under 125 total at Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club.
The East Tennessee State rising junior made ten birdies in the first round along with a lone bogey on the 14th, a 465-yard par-4, to post nine-under 61, good for a four stroke lead.
The lead jumped to six after he finished the second round, as he made eight more birdies en route to a six-under 64.
He leads Adam Ball of VCU, who sits in second place by himself at nine-under 131.
Ball fired the lowest second round score so far with a seven-under 63. He made seven birdies with no blemishes on the card.
Play was halted at 8:30 on Friday evening, with about half the field left on the course. The tournament will resume on Saturday morning, and once all players are finished, the cut will be made to the low 80 scores and ties.
