Seabolt ahead by three at Carolinas Amateur
GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 11, 2014) – Second round results of the 100th Carolinas Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Greenville Country Club (Chanticleer) in Greenville, SC on Friday, July 11, 2014 (6836 yards, par 36-36—72, 75.0/146).

The story of the day revolved around the morning wave as two competitors took advantage of the great course conditions and beautiful weather to go low. Zach Seabolt of Raleigh, NC, who shared the round 1 lead with three other players, carded 10 total birdies on his way to a 7-under par 65 to hold a 3 shot lead (134, 10-under par) going into the third round. When asked to describe his round, Seabolt, a rising sophomore at Winthrop University, remarked, “I had the putter really rolling today. I made five straight on the front side starting out and that was a real confidence booster.”

Also having an exceptional round was Lee Palms of Greenville, SC. Palms is a member of the Greenville Country Club and knows the course well. He started on the back nine in the morning wave and holed out his second shot on the par 4 18th hole for an eagle. Shortly after making the turn to the front side, he carded a hole-in-one on the par three 2nd hole set at 155 yards today. Combined with three other birdies on the round, Palms shot a 66 (6-under) for a two day total of 137 (7-under par) and is alone in second place as the championship heads into the weekend.

In third place with a two day total of 140 (4-under par) is Danny Pizetoski of Davidson, NC. Earlier in the week at Monroe Country Club in Monroe, NC Pizetoski earned his way into the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship by tying for first place in a sectional qualifier.

Round one co-leader Jack Radley, Sanford, NC played at even par today to retain a hold on fourth place at 141, (3-under par). Harrison D. Frye, Gastonia, NC carded a 1-over par 73 after sharing the lead following the first round. He sits in 5th place tied with 2 other players.

Defending champion and round one co-leader Carter Jenkins of Raleigh, NC slipped a little with a 2-over par round and is tied for 8th with 4 other players at 1-under for the Championship.

The field was cut to the top 60 players plus ties for the final two rounds. The cut line fell at 152 (8-over par) with 70 players making it to the weekend.

Round 3 is scheduled to begin at 8:00am on Saturday off the #1 and #10 tees. The field will be re-paired for Saturday’s play according to total score. Link to Round 3 starting times is below.
